Poetic journey in the land of Atalie and their hand dyed thread.  Once upon a time Martine Viard discovered an old marquoir embroidered by a little girl in the year 1818. She felt in love with this wonderful and imaginative work and finally created threads so that she could reproduce the marquoir. Now more than 150 colors are presented by this company started in 2001. Cotton and silk alike will shimmer and seduce your eye. They are hand dyed by Martine Viard.

The collection comprise cotton threads sold in 8m skeins, silk threads sold in skeins of 6m and 20 m. The silk thread are "soie d'Alger". You will find also silk ribbons in length of 3m. Adonis, la Maternelle, il pleut, Micocoulier, Orient, Tempête, are some of the imaginative names of Atalie and the few pictures on this page should invite you to go discover Atalie. Because I did some cross stitching with Atalie's threads, I can only tell you that they gave me a peaceful feeling due to their "powdery" aspect and their soft colors. My piece of work did take a special tone making me slide in an atmosphere of fairy tale, melancholy but never sad. This threads are inescapable!

Just a little reminder on maintaining the threads. The are not color washable and therefore you will have to be very tidy while working with them. Also order the right amount since from one bath to another you might have a slightly different shade. Like things that are rare, you will not find Atalie's threads everywhere. Therefore you should go on the website to order direct. But notice that the site is closed to ordering each second half of each month, so Martine can deliver her retailers. If you really are impatient you can check the retailer list and contact the nearest shop. (The site is only in French)
