Customizing espadrilles (sandals)!

Matériel:
Preparation:
When you will cut the waste canvas, you should calculate the dimensions of the pattern and verified if it feets the top of the sandals.
For a pattern with a stitche count of 43 embroidered on a canvas 25ct the pattern will measure 43/12.5= 3.5''- Tack the canvas on the sandals.
The canvas seems askew on the sandal. But it is an optical illusion. The canvas is well aligned, I swear !
- Cross stitch with the needle going through the canvas straight and not askew, otherwise your stitches will be of diferrent sizes. Stitch with a rounded tip needle so you don't catch one thread of the canvas.
Main pitfall:
Plan where you start and finish your stitches. You should start and finish in a place where you can easily work (top). One trick I used is to start on the sea horse head, then I go under the previous stitches to continue the contour where I left it. Don't thread with a noose since you propably will have to undo some stitches in an tight spot (sandal points).
More pitfalls:
To give spice to the project I stitched with a white trhead over a white canvas!

Here is the last thing to do before wearing your great espadrilles. Very easy because the pattern has not many cross stitches and the back stitches let slide the canvas threads. Last time in the basic I told you that I was not keen on waste canvas, but I have to confess that I did enjoy this project!
A last word about stitching espadrilles. It will make supple you wrist and increase your skill ! It is a small project, quickly done, although you can use smaller motifs (such as one of my sea shells) and do it even quicker with the same visual effect. Definitely you will wear exquisite sandals and change from the cross stitch routine!
